38 Weeks

I'm in the home stretch (pun not intended).  It has been a pretty good and productive week.  My birthday was on Monday (happy 31!) and Thanksgiving was on Thursday so I got to pig out about as much as my stomach allowed me to.  I'm still working full-time so the Thanksgiving break was much needed and I got a chance to relax at home quite a bit.  I'm still really tired but I feel like I got a lot accomplished.  The dresser for the baby's room arrived and Jason quickly put it together.  I took advantage of the long weekend (including Black Friday) to get some of the decorations up and I also sewed two pillow covers (for small throw pillows) and started sewing the last baby blanket.  I did a bunch of laundry and put most of the baby clothes away.  The decals arrived yesterday but we haven't put them on the walls yet.  I'm excited to get them up but need to prep the walls first.

I packed my bag for the hospital as much as I possibly could (still need to throw in phone chargers and other everyday items when the time comes).  I also bought Logan a backpack from a consignment store so that he has his very own bag that's ready for when mommy goes to the hospital.  He loves his backpack and stuffed it full of fruit snacks and juice boxes as soon as I told him what it was for.  Too cute :).  The gift that I ordered for Logan (from baby Elise) arrived in the mail yesterday too and I just need to wrap it and put it in my hospital bag... it's a book that he reads at daycare that he absolutely loves so I think he'll be impressed that Elise knew about it ;).

Jason and I got to go out a couple times this week on "dates" which was nice.  I'm sure it will be a while until we'll get to do that again.  We went to Red Robin for my free birthday burger and then went back again on Black Friday night before going to see Catching Fire.  I enjoyed it :).

Contractions: I've been feeling them multiple times each day but nothing close together or consistent.
Cravings: Not really craving anything but eating a bowl of cereal just about every night.
Weight:  My total is up to 31 lbs
Swelling:  Hands, feet, ankles, etc.  The carpal tunnel is really aggravating and uncomfortable.
Things to do: Install the infant car seat
Heartburn:  Zantac 2x daily
Stretching: Minimal stretching beyond what I have from Logan.

I go back to the doctor tomorrow (Monday) because my appointment this past Wednesday was canceled.  The doctor had two c-sections scheduled at the last minute but I'm feeling fine so I'm not worried about missing that appointment.

I had to buy some men's slippers this afternoon because I couldn't find any women's in the right size for my poor puffy feet.  I fully plan on wearing them to work and I'm sure nobody will have anything to say about it ;).

I'm closing the baby pool tonight (I forgot to do it earlier this week), so good luck to everyone who has entered a guess :).  The winner will be posted as soon as I can after she's born.  I'm not entering a guess (don't want to mess up the game) but my guess is December 7th (a day that will live in infamy) at 8:15pm, 7lbs 5oz and 20.5" long :).

I will try to post pictures of the nursery when we have more completed (decals on the wall, etc.).  It's going to be adorable! :)

29 Weeks

Wow, every time I sit down to write a new post, I feel like the week has flown by... and here I am at 29 weeks!  It still seems like my due date is pretty far off (about 11 weeks away... after Thanksgiving) but at the same time, I know the weeks will go by really quickly.

This week has been a pretty good one.  We've been trying to go on family walks at night since the weather has cooled off considerably.  They're pretty relaxed walks but they're walks nonetheless :).

A few things that I've noticed this week are:

Heartburn
I've had heartburn almost daily for the past month (at least) but it has gotten worse this week.  If anyone knows of any home/natural remedies that I can try, please let me know!

Aches
My legs have been kind-of achy a few times this week, almost how your muscles can feel when you have a fever.  When his happens, I just try to stretch them out but that doesn't seem to help.  I haven't experienced it the past day or two, so hopefully it was just a random thing that won't come back.  Another pain/discomfort that seems to be back is my rib pain.  I don't think it will ever get completely better until after she is born.  I might have to go back to the chiropractor to get it pushed back into place.

Swelling
I think I have to say goodbye to my ankle bones until after the baby gets here because my ankles and feet have been puffing up quite a bit this week.  As long as my blood pressure stays within a normal range, my doctor doesn't seem to be overly concerned about it.  It just means I have been spending a lot of time after work with my feet up on the couch... and at work, I've been putting my feet up on a pulled-out desk drawer.  The men at work know that it's in their best interest to not say anything about it ;).

Nursery
I'm slowly getting items together to decorate the nursery.  I will try to post pictures in my next weekly post if anyone is curious about the 'theme'.  I'm excited to see how it all comes together :).

Sleep
Basically I'm not getting much of it.  I keep waking up because I'm uncomfortable, I have acid reflux, I have to go to the bathroom, etc.  Also, Logan has been waking up more frequently in the middle of the night so I've been getting up to snuggle him and put him back to bed.  I don't know if it's an attention thing or what but hopefully it's just a phase that passes quickly.  Also, I've been snoring lately which has been hard on Jason (poor guy) and Breathe Right nasal strips don't seem to be helping much. So whenever I wake up for one of the aforementioned reasons, I feel guilty about keeping Jason awake from my snoring which makes me sleep lighter because I'm trying to make a conscious effort to not snore.  Ugh.

Missing Feet
My belly has officially caused my feet to disappear, which is really saying something when you consider that I wear size 12 shoes.  I told Jason the other day "I feel like I'm following something" when I walk around because my belly is quite prominent.  My boss was cracking up the other day while watching me attempt to put socks on.  I guess he can laugh all he wants... because I'll be laughing while I'm on maternity leave, thinking about the amount of work he gets to do ;).  Anyway, my belly has a definite presence :).

I think that's about all for now.  My next appointment is on Wednesday so I'll post an update soon after that :).

27 Weeks

This has been a very busy week!  And I probably mention this a lot, but the weeks just seem to be flying by... in 3 days I'll be in my 3rd trimester, wowwy.

I got the results from my glucose test and they were fine, yay!  It's always nerve-wracking when you have to take tests like this and you have no control over the outcome.  I'm glad I don't have to worry about it for the remainder of the pregnancy, though.  I have my next appointment and ultrasound on Wednesday.  Hopefully they'll go well because I scheduled them back-to-back and I don't want to be stressed out or late.

I went to a baby shower for my friend who is due in October and it was so much fun :).  We got some cute belly pictures together and I had a nice time catching up with my college friends.

Appetite:
I haven't been overly hungry lately or nauseous.  I think my appetite has leveled out a bit.  Hopefully that will reflect on the scale on Wednesday ;).

Contractions:
According to my weekly updates, I've been having Braxton Hicks contractions for a while now, but haven't noticed them yet.  Hopefully I won't notice them for another month or two.

Pain:
This sciatic nerve pain is ridiculous.  When I sit on the couch, I feel fine but when I try standing up or walking, I feel like an old man.  I have shooting nerve pain through my hips and down into the back of my thighs.  It's very annoying.  I thought about taking a bath tonight but I doubt there's much that can actually relieve the pain.  It has even made sleeping a challenge.

Movement:
This little girl is very busy.  I woke up at 2:30 this morning to use the bathroom and when I got back into bed, she started kicking really hard.  I didn't get back to sleep until 3:00 or later because of it.  She especially seems to like when I eat because she starts kicking and rolling around about 5 minutes after I eat anything.

Belly:
I've had SO many comments this week from people I know as well as strangers making comments about my belly.  It starts with "how much longer to you have?" or "when is your due date?" and when I tell them I have 3 months left, their response is "wow.... are you sure there's only one? " or "oh wow, you're already huge!" and I have to bite my tongue to avoid making a rude response.  Let me just put this out there.... the responses above are some of the most insensitive and hurtful that people can say.  I'm not a rude person but I'm almost to the point where I don't care about offending someone with my response.  That's all I'll say about that... for now.

Nursery:
Jason (and Logan) surprised me by painting the nursery yesterday.  The color is a bit different than I wanted, though.  I was wanting a soft grey and we chose one that looked like it had a tiny bit of a soft lavender tone to it but when I saw the finished product it looked a lot more lavender than I wanted.  I'll have to go back in the room to see it in different lighting but either way I can work with the color.  The room just might have more purple than I had originally intended :).

Nesting:
I haven't really done much of any nesting lately.  I bought some fabric to sew a couple of Boppy covers, a nursing cover, and a blankie, but the sciatic nerve pain has kept me from doing much cleaning.

Name:
We're still mulling over a couple of names.  So far we're pretty set on the first name being Elise, but are still talking about the middle name.  I just suggested a new middle name today and got a good response, so we'll see what happens :).  I'll let people know as soon as we know!

That's it for now, I think... like I said, it has been a busy week.  I'm looking forward to the 3rd trimester, though!  Only about 12 weeks left :).

Final Amnio Update & 26 Weeks

As most of you have probably already heard, I got a phonecall from the doctor on Thursday morning with our final amnio results.  As with the first results, these also came out "normal", so Logan has 46 perfect chromosomes :).  We're very happy and relieved to have these results so that we can move on and focus on his heart.  The doctor scheduled the echo ultrasound, which will be done by the cardiologist, for February 14th.  She will be looking at a special sweet heart on Valentine's Day :).  Jason will be in Brazil for work, but his mom said she will go with me.

I'm still feeling a lot of kicking and movement, which is great.  I've been getting a little nervous whenever I don't feel anything for a large part of the day, but I think he's just sleeping :).  I sat on the couch yesterday and watched my belly moving for a few minutes.  It was very very cool to see his kicks from the outside :).

Sleeping at night can still be a challenge, but I keep switching up my pillows, which seems to help.  I've had to start getting out of bed differently for potty breaks.  Since my stomach is growing, I have to swing my legs off the edge of the bed, then boost my upper body with my arms and then I can stand on the floor.  It gets interesting some nights, especially if I'm not quite awake yet, ha :).

It's getting harder to put my socks & shoes on and taking care of my feet is nearly out of the question.  I finally got a pedicure on Friday because my toenails were getting out of control.  I just have to say that even though pedicures are great anytime, they're about 10x better when you're pregnant!  The massage chair nearly put me to sleep and then the foot and leg massage (don't worry, it was a light massage) was amazing!!!  Now I can wear open-toed shoes without cringing whenever I look down... and yes, I can still see my feet when I look down :).

Jason painted the nursery today and it looks great!  Lots of people have asked what we're painting it, etc., so I'll tell you the plan.  He painted it a beige color since I'm not sure how long we'll be in this house and I want to be able to use it for a girl's room someday if we need to.  We're going to put some car-related decals on the wall (cars, trucks, streets, etc.) and I'm going to paint letters in light blue to spell out his name and hang them on the wall.  Other than that, we'll just have furniture in there and that will probably be it.  I'm wanting to get a pack 'n play for downstairs, though, and I'm going to use a jungle theme for that (and his bouncer, swing, etc.).  I'm excited to see it all come together and now that the room is painted, I'm even more eager :).

A few people have made comments lately that I'm "really starting to show".  In my opinion, I've been showing for a few months, but I guess it's pretty obvious now :).  I don't mind at all, because I love being pregnant.  My belly button is starting to push out a little, so I'm sure that'll "pop" soon and even more people will notice my belly.  What I find most funny is that hardly anyone at my work has said anything.  I think they're being careful and they don't want to assume that I'm pregnant, but my belly has grown since I started working there :).  Oh well... I'm sure it'll be pretty obvious to them in the next month or two :).

Welp, I guess it's time for the new developments:
  • Your baby continues to grow and develop inside of you. Measuring about 14 inches long, he weighs just less than 2 lbs!
  • His lungs continue to develop and he is taking small breaths of amniotic fluid inside your womb. These small breaths are getting him in shape for his first breath of fresh air.
  • His veins are visible through his transparent skin but soon that will change as his skin begins to turn opaque.
  • The nerve pathways are becoming more and more developed, making him more responsive to sound. Don't be surprised if you feel him jump inside you if he is startled by a sudden noise.
  • If you're having a boy, his testicles are descending into his scrotum this week.
Sorry that some of the info is a bit TMI, but hey, things have to happen for little boys! :)

Thanks again to everyone for your support and prayers :).  God is so good and we are thrilled to have the results that we prayed for.  Please continue to pray for the hole in his heart to close on its own.  If it doesn't, then that's God's plan, but we will still pray :).

Have a great week and I'll be back for #27!
