26 Weeks

I've done a terrible job with documenting this pregnancy.  My last post was at 11 weeks, so here's an update.  We found out we're having a girl on May 18th.  Logan was upset because he really wanted a little brother, but he got over the disappointment pretty fast.  Now he says goodnight to my belly every night and he loves to feel her kicks.  It's really sweet watching the kids experience this pregnancy since they're a bit older now.  They went to my 26 week checkup last week and heard her heartbeat, which they said was really cool.

We traveled to Oregon a couple weeks ago and it was nice to spend time with my family.  The kids got to do loads of fun stuff while we were there and the weather was amazing (in my opinion).  It was in the 60's and 70's during our entire stay, which was a welcome break from Atlanta's 80's and HUMID that we returned to.  Summers here are my least favorite, especially when I'm pregnant.  I basically turn into a hermit and hide in air conditioned places :).

While we were in Oregon, I started having very sharp pelvic pains.  They come and go and don't seem to affect the baby but they still worry me a bit.  The doctor I saw yesterday (the same one that delivered Logan) said it sounds like they are just stretching pains, but I think it's something else.  They feel more like nerve pain and at times hurt so bad I can barely walk.  I will probably ask a different doctor for her opinion but in the meantime, warm baths and a heating pad (not together) seem to help alleviate the pain.  I've also been having Braxton Hicks contractions for at least a month.

Baby is now the size of an eggplant and she kicks a lot, especially when I try going to sleep at night.  She might be a bit of a night owl.  She has certainly been keeping me awake at night.  She moves a lot when I eat and she seems to like hearing the kids talk. I have another ultrasound (and my glucose test) next week.  They will be checking her heart again now that she's bigger.  Prayers for a normal healthy heart are appreciated!

That's about all I have for now.  I will try to post more consistently going forward :).

27 Weeks

This has been a very busy week!  And I probably mention this a lot, but the weeks just seem to be flying by... in 3 days I'll be in my 3rd trimester, wowwy.

I got the results from my glucose test and they were fine, yay!  It's always nerve-wracking when you have to take tests like this and you have no control over the outcome.  I'm glad I don't have to worry about it for the remainder of the pregnancy, though.  I have my next appointment and ultrasound on Wednesday.  Hopefully they'll go well because I scheduled them back-to-back and I don't want to be stressed out or late.

I went to a baby shower for my friend who is due in October and it was so much fun :).  We got some cute belly pictures together and I had a nice time catching up with my college friends.

Appetite:
I haven't been overly hungry lately or nauseous.  I think my appetite has leveled out a bit.  Hopefully that will reflect on the scale on Wednesday ;).

Contractions:
According to my weekly updates, I've been having Braxton Hicks contractions for a while now, but haven't noticed them yet.  Hopefully I won't notice them for another month or two.

Pain:
This sciatic nerve pain is ridiculous.  When I sit on the couch, I feel fine but when I try standing up or walking, I feel like an old man.  I have shooting nerve pain through my hips and down into the back of my thighs.  It's very annoying.  I thought about taking a bath tonight but I doubt there's much that can actually relieve the pain.  It has even made sleeping a challenge.

Movement:
This little girl is very busy.  I woke up at 2:30 this morning to use the bathroom and when I got back into bed, she started kicking really hard.  I didn't get back to sleep until 3:00 or later because of it.  She especially seems to like when I eat because she starts kicking and rolling around about 5 minutes after I eat anything.

Belly:
I've had SO many comments this week from people I know as well as strangers making comments about my belly.  It starts with "how much longer to you have?" or "when is your due date?" and when I tell them I have 3 months left, their response is "wow.... are you sure there's only one? " or "oh wow, you're already huge!" and I have to bite my tongue to avoid making a rude response.  Let me just put this out there.... the responses above are some of the most insensitive and hurtful that people can say.  I'm not a rude person but I'm almost to the point where I don't care about offending someone with my response.  That's all I'll say about that... for now.

Nursery:
Jason (and Logan) surprised me by painting the nursery yesterday.  The color is a bit different than I wanted, though.  I was wanting a soft grey and we chose one that looked like it had a tiny bit of a soft lavender tone to it but when I saw the finished product it looked a lot more lavender than I wanted.  I'll have to go back in the room to see it in different lighting but either way I can work with the color.  The room just might have more purple than I had originally intended :).

Nesting:
I haven't really done much of any nesting lately.  I bought some fabric to sew a couple of Boppy covers, a nursing cover, and a blankie, but the sciatic nerve pain has kept me from doing much cleaning.

Name:
We're still mulling over a couple of names.  So far we're pretty set on the first name being Elise, but are still talking about the middle name.  I just suggested a new middle name today and got a good response, so we'll see what happens :).  I'll let people know as soon as we know!

That's it for now, I think... like I said, it has been a busy week.  I'm looking forward to the 3rd trimester, though!  Only about 12 weeks left :).

27 Weeks

How many weeks am I again?  I keep losing track :P.  This is a little bit late, so I'm now 27 weeks and 4 days (oops), but oh well.  I've been doing pretty good this week.  Little man is still growing and I feel him moving a lot.  Lately it's been feeling like his head is up against my ribs, which is interesting.  I laugh because it's a weird feeling and it's all new, but at the same time I'm hoping he'll move because it's kind-of uncomfortable.  Things are definitely getting squished!

I've been feeling a tiny bit more energetic, but with the emphasis on "tiny".  I try to take care of things around the house when I get home from work, but usually once Jason gets home, I'm too tired to do anything else.  He's been really great, though, and he helps make dinner and clean up the kitchen when I'm a blob on the couch :).

I've been having more back pain when I get into bed at night, which is really frustrating.  It usually takes about 10 minutes for it to subside, so I think it's related to my 'slight scoliosis' and it's just being aggravated by the pregnancy.  I haven't been having as much trouble with hip pain when I sleep, though, which is good.  Another bad thing is my heartburn, though.  I try to eat all the things that are supposed to help neutralize heartburn, but when I go to bed at night it seems to get worse.  My doctor told me I can take a low dosage of zantac, so I've been trying to do that at night since Tums and Mylanta aren't helping and I keep waking up with reflux.  Oh, the joys of pregnancy :).

In my last blog post, I mentioned how my coworkers haven't really said anything about my belly.  Well, on Friday one of the guys at work came to my desk to ask me a question and stopped mid-sentence.  He was looking at my ultrasound picture on my desk and he said, "is that yours?".  I told him "yes" and he asked, "are you pregnant?!?!"  I patted my bulging belly and said "very much so... about 7 months!"  Ha, I thought it was funny.  He then said that he's a guy, so he doesn't notice that kind of stuff.  I told him that if he sees me waddling around the office, that's why.  I guess maybe I should be flattered that people haven't really noticed or put 2 and 2 together, but at the same time I hope they don't just think I have a huge belly.  Oh well :).  It will become more and more obvious the closer I get to May 6th.

One last thing about this week was something that happened on Friday morning.  I didn't have to work, so I slept in until 8 and then the dog woke me up to take him outside.  It was raining and he's a huge pansy, so I figured I would take him out front, where the porch is covered and he could just go potty on the bushes out there.  I took him out to take care of his business, but when I tried to come back inside, the door was locked.  I couldn't believe it.  Our doorknob has been acting funny lately and from the inside it won't lock, but apparently even if it doesn't feel like it's locked, it really is.  I ended up sitting on the front doormat with the dog for almost an hour, wearing only my pajamas, thigh-length bathrobe, and slippers in rainy 34* weather.  It was not fun at all.  Thankfully I had my phone with me, so I called Jason and his mom and they both showed up to save me, so everything was ok, but I got a bit emotional while we were sitting outside... and Gandalf kept scratching at the door like I was stupid and just wanted to sit outside, ha :).  That afternoon, I made lots of copies of our house key and I've been taking it outside with me every time I take the dog out.

Anyway, that's enough rambling for now.  Here are the development details for the week:
  • Your baby continues to grow and develop inside of you. Measuring about 14.5 inches long, he weighs just about 2 lbs.
  • This week, his brain is developing quickly. His eyelids, which have remained closed up until this point, begin to open and now his retinas can begin to form. The retina contains specialized photoreceptor cells that respond to light, called rods and cones. Cones in particular help us perceive color.
  • His skin is still wrinkly but by 27 weeks, he basically looks how he will look when you give birth to him, in just a few months!
Oh yeah, and my uterus is the size of a basketball, woot woot! :P  So exciting ;). Thanks for reading and I'll be back in a few days with Week 28 :).
